Lindsey Graham: Trump's ISIS Plan 'Insanely Dangerous'

The nasty war of words between Lindsey Graham and Donald Trump continued Friday as the South Carolina senator said the Islamic State (ISIS) "loves" the billionaire developer, whose plan to wipe out the Islamic extremists will instead "embolden" them.

In an interview with Newsmax TV on Friday, Graham also labeled Trump "a fraud," "a showman," and the "worst-prepared guy in the world to be commander-in-chief."

"Donald Trump's plan to destroy ISIL is the most ill-advised, insanely dangerous idea I've ever heard," Graham, who like Trump is seeking the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, told "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"I never thought I'd hear myself say that there's a Republican running for office that's got a worse idea when it comes to radical Islam than [President Barack] Obama."

Trump has said that as president he would reclaim the oil fields the Islamic State has commandeered to strip the group of its wealth.

"Here's what's going to happen with Mr. Trump: people are going to say 'well is it really smart to go to Iraq and Syria and take their oil for our benefit? Will that destroy ISIL?' I don't think so," Graham said.

"ISIL loves Donald Trump. The idea of having American soldiers taking Mideast oil for our benefit. How big of a recruiting opportunity do you think that would be? It puts Israel, the king of Jordan, all our allies at risk.

"This is an insanely dangerous idea that will embolden ISIL and put everybody in the Mideast against us, turn our allies, put our friends at risk."

Graham said Trump's ideas on stopping the Islamic State is "just one example of why his campaign is not going to be successful."

"Because if he knew anything about the Mideast, anything about destroying ISISL, you would never suggest that we're going to seize oil for the benefit of America in the Mideast," he said.

On Thursday a new Quinnipiac University national poll found Trump leading the GOP pack with 28 percent, with Graham earning less than four percent of the vote. Still, Graham said he has no plans of quitting the race.

"I've been representing my state for 20 years now in the House and the Senate. It's been the honor of my life. I've got a very loyal following. I understand why people are frustrated. I am frustrated, too," said Graham.

He added that, unlike Trump, who wants to deport all illegal immigrants and "anchor babies," he is ready to solve the nation's immigration crisis "rationally."

"I will control the border, fix the border, secure the border, deal with the 11 million [illegal immigrants] rationally, so we don't have 11 million 20 years from now. I know what will work and what won't," Graham said.

"We just need a leader who can get it done and we're not going to deport American citizen children whose parents happen to be illegal. What Mr. Trump is doing is he's building a wall not between Mexico and the United States but between the Republican Party and the Hispanic community … that will take generations to get over if it continues.

"Here's what I think will happen: the Republican primary electorate will wake up and understand that he's a showman, that he's a fraud when it comes to being a conservative, that he's the worst-prepared guy in the world to be commander in chief, that he has no foreign policy background or experience and this will sort itself out."

Graham has previously labeled Trump a "complete idiot, a "jackass" and a "political car wreck."

Trump has slammed Graham as an "idiot" and in a tweet, taunted:
