Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said he wants "to punish the hell out of Russia for trying to interfere in our election," but he plans "to get to the bottom" of President Donald Trump's claims he was wiretapped by former President Barack Obama's administration.

"We owe it to [Trump], we owe it to the American people to find out what happened in the 2016 election," Graham, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, told "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y.

"If there was a warrant issued to surveil the Trump campaign, I want to know about it. That would be disturbing because you'd have to have probable cause to get one. If there is no surveillance of the Trump campaign by the FBI or any other group, I think the American people need to know that.

"We will get to the bottom of whether or not the Trump campaign or anybody around the Trump campaign was surveilled by the Obama administration, or anybody else."

Graham pointed back to former Director of National Intelligence's James Clapper's past statement there was "no evidence of collusion" between the Trump campaign and Russia as a significant one, but he intends to focus his search on finding a warrant for surveillance.

"If there was no warrant, then I am confident it didn't happen, but I will look, and I will look hard," Graham added to host John Catsimatidis.

Graham issued "no doubt" Russia interfered in the election, but "they didn't affect the outcome." He also said he would like WikiLeaks' Julian Assange to be brought to America to be punished for its leaking of U.S. secrets that have put our people in danger.

"WikiLeaks is a Russian front . . . I want Russia to pay a price," Graham told Catsimatidis. "As Republicans we should be very upset that a foreign power would try to interfere in our election."
