Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has come out in support of Israel’s initial decision to bar Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., from visiting the country.
Israel announced on Thursday that Tlab and Omar would not be allowed to make a previously-scheduled visit to the West Bank, before retreating on Friday and allowing her to visit under conditions that she described as “oppressive.”
Graham told local station WLTX-TV on Thursday that although Tlaib and Omar are “duly elected members of Congress,” he understood Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reasoning.
“They are duly elected members of Congress, I get that, but they are openly supporting the [boycott, divestment and sanctions] movement which would be an economic boycott of the state of Israel and basically destroy the state, so I understand both sides of the story here,” he said, according to The Hill.
“From my point of view, there have got to be consequences to your behavior,” Graham added. “If you openly joined an international movement to destroy the state of Israel, then you'll suffer the consequences.”
