Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., warned that there will be "riots in the streets" if former President Donald Trump is prosecuted for his handling of classified materials discovered during the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago home, The Hill reported.
Graham told Fox News' "Sunday Night in America" that "if they tried to prosecute President Trump for mishandling classified information after Hillary Clinton set up a server in her basement, there literally will be riots in the street. I worry about the country."
Graham insisted that there is a "double standard" with federal law enforcement, citing recent remarks made by Mark Zuckerberg about Facebook's handling of a story on Hunter Biden's laptop after a warning from the FBI, Business Insider reported.
"Most Republicans, including me, believe when it comes to Trump, there is no law. It's all about 'getting him,'" Graham said.
Graham repeated his warning of riots, this time in connection to the Georgia special grand jury probing efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election results in the state, according to The Hill.
Trump indicated his approval of Graham's remarks by posting a video of the senator's interview to Truth Social, The Guardian reported.
Former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh, who has become a Trump critic, agreed that there will be riots if the former president is indicted, but lashed out at Graham for his remarks.
"I see and hear those threats all the time," Walsh wrote. "But threats of violence should never stop the pursuit of justice. Never. And you know that Lindsey. But you're too much of a coward to say that. Shameful."
