Gov. John Bel Edwards, D-La., fired back at former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuiani's criticism Sunday morning on CNN's "State of the Union," saying he has no partisan motivation for his differing opinions on political visits for Louisiana flood relief.
"I believe Mayor Giuliani got it completely wrong," Edwards told CNN. "I have not been critical of Mr. [Donald] Trump's visit. I have tried not to comment because I don't want to get tied up in the politics of whether it's the president, whether it's Hillary Clinton or whether it's Donald Trump. I have tried not to comment.
"And the comments that I have made have been very reserved. So I think he was off base there with that comment."
While the Democratic governor told Trump to not come merely for a photo op, he is welcoming a delayed visit of President Obama this week – which has permitted a vacationing President to complete a pre-planned vacation to Martha's Vineyward.
"He is welcome to visit when he wants to, but because we were undergoing the response here in the capital region, I asked that they consider coming next week, which ultimately is what he is going to do," Edwards told CNN on Sunday.
