Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, is said to be “tying up loose ends” in his probe, and will potentially finish it up in the next few weeks, according to Yahoo News.
The special counsel is also due to make three crucial court filings this week, including sentencing memos for Michal Flynn, Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort.
Mueller was appointed to his role in May 2017, directed by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein to investigate “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with” President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
Thirty-three people and three companies have been charged in the probe, including Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer who last week pleaded guilty to lying to Congress when he insisted that Trump was pursuing plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow in 2016. Trump has denied the claim.
Trump, who has repeatedly called the probe a “witch hunt,” in late November submitted written answers to questions from Mueller related to the investigation.
Flynn, who served as Trump's National Security Adviser, was charged with making false statements regarding conversations he had with Russian officials. Manafort, Trump's former campaign chairman, was found guilty on eight counts of financial crimes.
