N.C. Governor Candidate Vows Lawsuit Against CNN

By    |   Monday, 23 September 2024 04:04 PM EDT

North Carolina GOP Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson said Monday he would take legal action against CNN for publishing what he calls "salacious lies" about posts he allegedly made on a pornography website over a decade ago.

CNN reported that Robinson, the candidate for governor, posted racist and sexually explicit comments on the site "Nude Africa," in which he called himself a "Black Nazi" and a "perv."

During a campaign stop in Wilkesboro, Robinson denied the allegations, dismissing them as false and irrelevant to current issues.

Robinson said, "We are going to go after them for what they’ve done. But we have five weeks left in this race, folks, and make no mistake about it, we are not going to let CNN throw us off of our mission."

He added, "You better understand I am coming after (CNN) full throttle."

Robinson did not provide details about the legal action he plans to take.

Several key staff members resigned over the weekend, including a senior adviser, Robinson’s campaign manager, his finance director and his operations director.

Robinson maintains he can still win, saying: "We have full confidence that we can go on. We’re getting resumes from all over. We’re getting offers from all over, people are jumping in to help us.

"We’re right in the process right now of forming a team that we know can still lead us to victory."

Robinson said that voters’ focus should be on the economy, public safety, and education, not "15- or 20-year-old salacious, false, lies."
