GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has an electable message, but is dead wrong on calling rival Jeb Bush "low energy," says Mary Matalin, a longtime political adviser to the Bush family.
"Donald Trump can say whatever he wants to say about Jeb, but saying that he’s low-energy is wrong because the guy is an Energizer Bunny," Matalin said Sunday on
"The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.
Bush has a record as a conservative governor in Florida that is often overlooked by people who compare him to his father, former President George H.W. Bush, and his brother, former President George W. Bush, Matalin said.
"He was conservative before the tea party was cool," Matalin told host John Catsimatidis.
Matalin said the GOP has a strong overall field and that Trump's message is "indisputably electable." He just needs to get the right people involved with him, she said.
"He has more substance than we’ve seen displayed. He certainly has the moxie," she said.
Matalin's husband, Clinton strategist James Carville, was on Catsimatidis' show a week earlier, predicting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee and end up in the White House.
"Don't hold your breath," Matalin said, pointing to the Quinnipiac poll last week that showed the words most voters associated with Clinton are "liar" and "dishonest."
"You can't have that kind of attributes," and win, Matalin said.
