A senior member of President Donald Trump's beachhead team — loyalists put in place to be his eyes and ears at the agency level — at the Environmental Protection Agency abruptly resigned amid infighting, The Daily Caller reported.
David Schnare, one of some 500 members first installed to help with the understaffed agencies, cited integrity issues between Trump's appointees and career staffers, he told the Caller.
"This wasn't about me being angry or upset," Schnare told the Caller. "When the time comes I will name names and go into specifics."
Schnare's resignation comes amid a report in The Washington Post about several rifts between beachhead members and Trump's Cabinet picks across several agencies, but most acutely at the EPA.
The Post reported that senior adviser David Benton has been excluded from several meetings by EPA head Scott Pruitt.
The connection between the Post's report on Benton, who ran Trump's campaign in Washington, and Schnare's resignation is unclear. However, the Caller reported that Schnare, too, had been excluded from senior-level meetings by Pruitt.
The Post reported that the beachhead members, who at first were reportedly put in place to take over on the day of Trump's inauguration, are now the president's eyes and ears to ensure loyalty from Trump's Cabinet members and extended team.
The Caller reported Schnare, an environmental scientist, had previously worked at the EPA for 30 years before becoming general counsel at the Energy and Environment Legal Institute.
