Critics Slam Hillary Clinton's New Book as 'Newsless Snore'

By    |   Monday, 09 June 2014 03:05 PM EDT

Hillary Clinton's memoir doesn't officially hit stores until Tuesday, but critics are already saying it’s a boring read and not worth buying.

According to Business Insider, the overwhelming response appears to be that the former secretary of state is so reserved about what she reveals that the result does not make for a compelling read.

"Hard Choices" is a newsless snore," Politico's Mike Allen wrote.

And it’s "written so carefully not to offend that it will fuel the notion that politics infuses every part of her life ... In this book, like in 'The Lego Movie' theme song, everyone is awesome!"

The New York Times agreed. "There is little news in the book," critic Michiko Kakutani writes. The New Republic's Isaac Chotiner attacked the book for its "dullness and lack of critical energy," Business Insider notes.

The site also quotes Slate's John Dickerson, who said the book is "the low-salt, low-fat, low-calorie offering with vanilla pudding as the dessert. She goes on at great length, but not great depth."

But bad reviews certainly won't keep Clinton away from talk shows or a book tour. And she is counting on those who don't care what a critic says.

"Book sales are treated like an unofficial straw poll when they’re written by a prospective candidate. A best-seller, her allies believe, would go a long way toward answering cries of 'Clinton fatigue' from her critics," Politico writes.

"Clinton is competing not just against other memoir writers, but against herself. Her aides say the book has already presold 1 million advance copies."
