Best-selling author Stephen King lashed out Monday at President-elect Donald Trump for berating actress Meryl Streep, who – without mentioning his name – delivered a withering takedown of Trump on Sunday night.
King called Trump's response "childish, churlish" and "petulant."
In her Golden Globes acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award, Streep – who was a Hillary Clinton supporter – referenced Trump's campaign trail imitation of a disabled reporter who used to work at The New York Times.
"It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can't get it out of my head because it wasn't a movie; it was in real life," she said. "Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence invites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose."
Trump punched back with his own critique, tweeting Streep was "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood," and denying he mocked Serge Kovaleski's congenital joint condition.
