Sen. Michael Bennet 'Very Inclined' to Run for President

By    |   Thursday, 28 March 2019 12:07 PM EDT

Running on a platform to reform American healthcare through fixes and not replacement of Obamacare, Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., said he "is very inclined" to enter the Democratic primary for the 2020 presidential election.

"I'm very inclined to do it, and we're looking at it," Sen. Bennet told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Thursday. "And I think look, the American people need somebody who's going to run and tell them the truth in 2020."

Striking a moderate tone, Bennet admitted the Affordable Care Act is not working for the American people, but going the Republican route of sabotaging it will not be the solution either.

"We can't get anything done around here if we continue to do what we've been doing here for the last 10 years," he told host Joe Scarborough, who wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, trumpeting Bennet as the quiet answer for the noisy and crowded Democratic field. "It's not just since Trump arrived.

"You know Trump is a symptom of our problem, and he's an accelerant of a lot of problems especially the anti-immigrant tone that he set in this country. But he's not the cause of our problems.

"The cause of our problems is 40 years of economic immobility for 90 percent of the American people, stagnant wages over that period of time, periods when we had economic growth but for most Americans those were periods of recession.

"We have to fix that, we have to address that. It's going to take us a generation to do it."

At the end of the interview, Bennet rejected the notion he is waiting to hear from former Vice President Joe Biden's impending decision to run for 2020.

"It has absolutely nothing to do with the vice president's decision," Bennet concluded, without officially announcing his plans yet.
