Michael Hayden, the former head of the CIA and the National Security Agency, has returned home after suffering a stroke in November.

The announcement came Friday in a statement by the Michael V. Hayden Center for Intelligence, Policy, and International Security. It noted Hayden is back home “after “weeks of intensive inpatient rehabilitation following the stroke.”

The statement added Hayden “has begun the next phase of his recovery, which will include more time at in-home and outpatients rehabilitative care.”

Hayden thanked all those who had sent gifts, letters and cards while he was hospitalized.

“I won’t be able to thank each of them personally, but they should know that I wouldn’t be where I am today without their encouragement,” he said in the statement..

His family announced in November that the retired U.S. Air Force four-star general had been hospitalized after suffering a stroke at home.
