Former CIA Director Michael Hayden believes it is better to forgo any impeachment process against Donald Trump and let voters decide the president’s fate in 2020.

Hayden, who was also head of the National Security Agency, made his comments during an interview on Mediaite’s John Ziegler’s “Individual 1” podcast.

“(Impeachment) is not going to happen in this Congress,” Hayden said. “So get on with it and go to the next election and be decisive about that. The best answer is the next election.”

But Hayden said he believes the report by former special counsel Robert Mueller provides evidence for impeachment, but would prefer voters decide whether Trump should have a second term.

And he said there is “no question” that the U.S. standing in the world has suffered because of Trump’s behavior as president.

“He’s done some very wrong things,” Hayden said.

Hayden has been battling back after suffering a stroke last year.

“Every day seems to be a little bit better, so that’s good,” he said on the podcast.
