Donald Trump "is not a patriot" because he cares more about himself than he does about the nation, according to former acting CIA director Michael Morell.
In a blistering assessment during a conference call Thursday, the Hillary Clinton supporter let loose on the GOP presidential nominee for not acting with America's best interests in mind, the Washington Post reported.
Clinton has seized on Trump's foreign business ties and admiration for Russia's President Vladimir Putin to criticize her rival.
And in the call, both Morell and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright also pushed that line of attack.
"He cares more about himself than anything else, including his nation," Morell charged, per the Post. "The definition of a patriot is someone who puts his nation above everything else in his life. In that regard, Donald Trump is not a patriot."
"The positions that he has taken . . . are positions that are 100 percent in line with his business interests," he added. "The American people have a right to know what these businesses are and whether or not his policies are influenced by those business interests."
According to Albright, Trump is a "gift to Putin," the Post reported.
"I am worried that Donald Trump, were he to win, would be the first president to have personal interests that could interfere with our country's interest," Albright said. "Putin could not have dreamed up a better candidate than Donald Trump."
Mocking Trump's failure to meet with Ukrainian President Pedro Poroshenko this week during the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, Albright said: "Maybe he should make his slogan 'Russia First.'"
