Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama are reportedly looking into purchasing an almost $15 million Martha’s Vineyard estate from Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, TMZ reports.
The Obamas regularly visited the island during the former president’s tenure in the White House, and according to sources on the island, the Obamas became enamored with the estate after renting the main residence, which is just under 6,900 square feet and has seven bedrooms, over the summer. The property also includes a private beachfront, a boathouse, two-car garage, pool, outdoor fireplace and a chef’s kitchen.
The estate is currently in escrow. The realtors who listed the estate, Tom LeClair and Gerret Conover, handle much of the real estate business on the island, and did not return TMZ’s calls for comment. The listing agent declined to comment to the Boston Globe when reached, as did a representative for the Celtics. The Globe could not reach a spokesperson for the Obamas, though a spokesman for the family previously denied a report that the couple were trying to buy property on Martha’s Vineyard in 2017.
Realtor.com reports that the estate was first listed in August 2015, at a price of $22.5 million, which was later reduced to $16,250,000 as of October 2018.
