Reportedly fueled by President Donald Trump's call to arms at the U.S.-Mexico border, militia groups are "packing coolers and tents, oiling rifles, and tuning up aerial drones," according to The Washington Post.
"We'll observe and report, and offer aid in any way we can," Texas Minutemen President Shannon McGauley told the Post. "We've proved ourselves before, and we'll prove ourselves again."
McGauley says his Minutemen has 100 volunteers already and perhaps more to come en route to Rio Grande.
"I can't put a number on it," McGauley told the Post. "My phone's been ringing nonstop for the last seven days. You got other militias, and husbands and wives, people coming from Oregon, Indiana. We've even got two from Canada."
A military report warns of militia members "unregulated militias stealing National Guard equipment during deployments," according to the report.
"We don't have any specific information about the militias," Border Patrol's top official in the Rio Grande Valley, Manuel Padilla Jr., told the Post. "We have seen them in the past, and when things start getting really busy, we have to make sure to let the community know they're out there.
"But they’re doing that on their own."
