MSNBC's "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski on Thursday said she feels Hillary Clinton is not telling the truth about her emails and told reporter Andrea Mitchell "it feels like she's lying straight out," reports
The Washington Free Beacon.
Mitchell responded by saying "there are so many inconsistencies, including their response," referring to a report from the
State Department inspector general released on Wednesday that faulted Clinton for poorly managing email regulations when she was secretary of state, including not seeking approval for her private email server.
"Here are the things that over time we remember here," Brzezinski said, according to the Beacon. "Her saying repeatedly it was allowed. A private server, set up in her home, by an IT guy who was given immunity and his emails are missing, and she even joked when she was asked, I think in a high school, did you wipe the server … And she joked about it being with a cloth."
Clinton's campaign should have acknowledged that mistakes were made in their response to the report, said Mitchell and "they should have just come out, arguably, and said this is a mess and we're going to try to move on."
"Instead they're fighting it, including coming up with a completely non-credible argument on her behalf," she added.
According to
CNN, Clinton's spokesman Brian Fallon, said the documents show her use of private email was the same as other secretaries of state and State Department officials, adding the inspector general could have shown "anti-Clinton bias."
"Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough also critiqued Clinton's response, saying, "I don't understand why you put out a statement like that. Stop lying, stop digging," reports
The Hill.
