The violence that rocked Milwaukee after police killed an armed African-American man is the end result of a century of Democratic and Socialist rule, former Arkansas governor and two-time presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says.

"Are the police really to blame for Milwaukee's 'inequities, unemployment, under-education,' and so on? Does the city not have any leadership that recognizes such terrible conditions and enacts policies to rectify them? Just who the heck is in charge there?!" Huckabee wrote Monday on his Facebook page.

"Here's a hint: Milwaukee's last full-out Republican mayor left office in 1908. Since then, the city has had one Republican-Democrat 'fusion' mayor (from 1912 to 1916), and three outright Socialist mayors.

"Between Democrats and Socialists, this year marks one full century of exclusive left-wing rule in Milwaukee … If Milwaukee's residents really want to end the insanity, there's one easy thing they can try doing differently, starting in November."

The Milwaukee unrest was triggered after the suspect, armed with a stolen handgun loaded with 23 rounds, was shot and killed after running from police after a traffic stop.

Looting and rioting broke out with protestors clashing with police officers and torching businesses. At least two people were injured after shots were fired and objects were thrown during the melee, police told CNN.
