Boos directed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he attended a performance of the Broadway musical "Hamilton" in New York City are ironic considering the similar histories of the United States and Israel, Mike Huckabee says.
"I have to assume this was before the show began, when they had yet to receive what must be their first-ever history lesson about a young nation dealing with a threat from those who would deny its very right to exist," the former Arkansas governor said Thursday on his Facebook page.
Huckabee said he was visiting Israel as Netanyahu was in New York meeting with both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
"He seems assured that whoever wins, the U.S.-Israel relationship will be solid," wrote Huckabee, who supports Trump.
"But then, it could only improve from what it has been under [President Barack] Obama," he added.
