House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., met with Donald Trump on Monday at the former president's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, as they talked about a path forward for the general election in November.
"It was great to meet with President Trump today at Mar-a-Lago," Johnson posted on X, with a photo of him and Trump standing side-by-side with each giving a thumbs-up. "Our Party is united and working together. I am confident we will send President Trump back to the White House, win back the Senate, and grow our House Republican majority!"
Johnson last traveled to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump in April when he was facing a motion to vacate resolution from Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, R-Ga., after he relied on Democrats to pass a $1.2 trillion spending bill in March to avoid a partial government shutdown. At the time they met, Trump said he supported Johnson, and Greene's motion was later tabled by the House with a 359-43 vote in early May.
Trump and Johnson met Thursday when the former president returned to Capitol Hill for the first time since the events of Jan. 6, 2021, and spoke in front of House and Senate Republicans.
"We have to plan to lead because there are so many problems to fix," Johnson said Thursday at a news conference after the meeting. "We're working through that right now. I spent a lot of time talking to President Trump about what happens after the election, and we have to do that, it's our responsibility.
"He's excited, we're excited, we really think this will happen. It's a good working relationship."
