As Vice President Mike Pence launches a national “Latinos for Trump” initiative, a new poll reveals sizable majorities of Hispanics want a Democrat in the White House next year, The Washington Post reported.
Pence was scheduled to appear in Miami on Tuesday at an event to emphasize gains for Latinos during Trump’s time in the White House, according to the newspaper.
Early Tuesday morning, the vice president had tweeted: “Looking forward to being in Miami today to kick off the @TeamTrump Latino Coalition! Under @realDonaldTrump more Hispanic Americans are working today than ever before in history & Hispanic Americans are starting new businesses at nearly 3 times the national average! #MAGA
Republicans involved in the “Latinos for Trump’ plan are confident they can sway Hispanic voters to Trump.
But, according to a new poll, by Telemundo, Hispanics in several states would prefer a Democrat in the Oval Office.
According to the survey of Hispanics:
- 66% in California prefer a Democrat in the White House, compared to 26% who want Trump.
- 56% in Florida want a Democrat compared 34% who prefer Trump.
- 73% in New York City prefer a Democrat, while 19% want a Trump.
- 69% in Texas want a Democrat, while 25% prefer Trump.
The poll surveyed 400 registered Hispanic voters in each of the four areas between June 6 and June 13. The margin of error was plus or minus 5% in each area.
