A Mississippi man was fired from his hospital job this week after he wore a t-shirt to the voting booth Tuesday emblazoned with the words "Mississippi Justice" over a graphic of a Confederate flag and a noose.
According to multiple news reports, including the New York Post, someone snapped a photo of Clayton Hickey wearing the shirt in Olive Branch, Mississippi. A social media uproar ensued, and he was eventually terminated by his employer.
"Regional One Health is committed to a safe, secure, and comfortable work environment for our patients, guests, employees, and medical staff," the hospital said in a statement.
"We understand and appreciate the intense feelings related to this situation, but it is our duty to perform a thorough due diligence to verify the truth … As of today, November 8, 2018, we have completed our investigation and what we learned led to the termination of the employee in question."
The shirt did not violate any standards for appearing at the voting both, as only clothing with candidates' names and/or images are prohibited.
According to WREG, Hickey worked as police officer in Memphis before resigning several years ago after an incident.
