The NAACP has returned a donation it received from Facebook and said it is leading a worldwide protest of the social media platform via the #LogOutFacebook effort.

The civil rights organization confirmed the news via a press release on its social media handles, pledging Tuesday not to use Facebook or Instagram — the latter of which is owned by Facebook.

"Facebook's engagement with partisan firms, its targeting of political opponents, the spread of misinformation, and the utilization of Facebook for propaganda promoting disingenuous portrayals of the African American community is reprehensible," NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson said.

Ironically, the NAACP posted about #LogOutFacebook on its Facebook page as well, which included changing its profile picture.

Facebook has come under fire in recent years for allegedly trying to silence conservatives. More recently, it was reported that Facebook hired a PR firm to target hedge fund billionaire George Soros, a high-profile liberal donor.
