Nearly half of Americans have no confidence "at all" in President Donald Trump, but more than a third said they also don't have confidence in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll released Monday.

The poll showed 48 percent of Americans said they have no confidence "at all" about Trump, but 37 percent said that about Pelosi.

By the numbers:

  • 35 percent said they have confidence in Trump to make the right decisions for the future of the United States, compared to 64 percent who do not.
  • Congressional Democrats, 35 percent feel confident; 65 percent do not.
  • Pelosi, 30-62 percent.
  • Congressional Republicans, 30-69 percent.
  • Americans also do not feel secure about Democrats in Congress, by 34-65 percent, or Republicans, by 30-69 percent.
  • 30 percent have no confidence "at all" about Republicans, versus 29 percent for Democrats.

The poll also found Americans say Trump is underperforming when it comes to their expectations, with 50 percent saying they expected him to do a good job handling the deficit, but 33 percent said he is doing a good job with it.

In addition, Trump trailed expectations by:

  • 12 percentage points, on the economy.
  • 11 points, on healthcare.
  • 4-9 points on other issues.

Trump's personal ratings were also low. The poll revealed 32 percent saw him favorably as a person, and was divided almost evenly on whether he is a strong leader, and among Trump's base, many saw him unfavorably, including:

  • 29 percent of evangelical white Protestants.
  • 24 percent of  strong conservatives.
  • 22 percent of Republicans.

The poll was conducted by telephone Jan. 21-24 of 1,001 adults, with a sampling error of 3.5 points by Langer Research Associates of New York, with sampling and data collection by Abt Associates of Rockville, Maryland.
