A Polish explorer said that he has found two more train tunnels built by Nazis in Poland in the same city where two men recently claimed to have found a World War II-era "gold train."

"The Nazis built a whole underground city in this region with an area of 200 hectares [about 995 acres] ... that was supposed to allow Hitler's inner circle to survive for a couple of years in case of an atomic attack," Krzysztof Szpakowski said Friday.

He talked with reporters in Walbrzycha, a city in southwestern Poland about six miles from the border with Czechoslovakia, The Daily Mail reports.

Szpakowski said the find resulted from "the work of several years" and involved statements from witnesses and archival documents. He also showed reporters ground-penetrating images of the two tunnels and subterranean complex, the Daily Mail reports.

"There could be anything there, but especially military equipment and construction material," he said, adding that it would be 'irresponsible' to suggest the contents include treasure, however.

Last month, two men claimed that they had found an armored railway train in Walbrzycha from the war that they said was filled with treasures, according to the Daily Mail. The men are Piotr Koper, who is from Poland, and Andreas Richter, who lives in Germany.

The train's existence has yet to be proven, according to the Mail, though a deputy culture minister for Walbrzycha said last month that he was "more than 99 percent sure" it was true, adding that he had seen a ground-penetrating radar image of the carriage.

Szpakowski said that news of the Nazi gold train "had sped up my decision to inform the Walbrzych authorities," the Daily Mail reports.
