Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wished Christians around the world a “Merry Christmas.”
His comments came in a video posted on his Twitter account. The video showed Netanyahu speaking on Christmas eve from Jerusalem.
“I’m very proud to be the prime minister of Israel, a country that says: ‘Merry Christmas’ – first to its Christian citizens and to our Christian friends around the world,” he said. “I’m proud that Israel is the country, in which Christians not only survive, but they thrive because we believe in this friendship among people and we protect the rights of everyone to worship in the holy shrines behind me.”
Despite an international backlash, President Donald Trump recently recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, The Hill noted.
In the video, Netanyahu made a pitch for people to visit Israel.
“Please come to Israel,” he said. “Next Year in Jerusalem and Merry Christmas to all of you.”
