David Hogg, a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who recorded video of his classmates barricaded during a mass shooting in February, and his sister, Lauren, have signed a book deal with Penguin Random House for a book to be published in June.
The book, titled "#NeverAgain," will chronicle the day Nikolas Cruz used an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle to kill 17 and injure 17 in Parkland, Florida. The shooting was the nation's deadliest since a gunman attacked an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, over five years ago.
Hogg, 17, and Lauren, 14, have been outspoken since the shooting, calling on lawmakers to take action on gun control. The book will be "a statement of generational purpose, and a moving portrait of the birth of a new movement" and describe "voices of a new generation that are speaking the truth to power, and are determined to succeed where their elders have failed."
Hogg on Twitter said proceeds from book sales will help "heal the community."
