New Judge to Hear All Ferguson Court Cases; Local Judge Resigns

Monday, 09 March 2015 06:58 PM EDT

A Missouri state appeals court judge will take over all current and future cases assigned to Ferguson's municipal courts following a scathing U.S. Justice Department report that found systemic abuses, the Missouri Supreme Court said on Monday.

The court said the transfer of Judge Roy Richter would take effect on March 16 and was aimed at helping restore public trust and confidence in the courts.

Meanwhile, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Ferguson Municipal Judge Ronald J. Brockmeyer resigned his position Monday afternoon.
