Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is "viciously dishonest" with her claims about conditions at the nations' border detention centers, as she is refusing to do anything that would help alleviate the overcrowding situation, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday.
"She votes, there were 99 Democrats who voted against humanitarian aid," Gingrich told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" about the outspoken New York Democrat. "They then go to the border to look at the disaster that Congress has created ... so people like AOC create the disaster, refuse to fix it, vote against funding to help people, and then go down there to attack people who are saying to her 'we don't have enough money, we don't have enough facilities.'"
But with her "attitude and her approach," Ocasio-Cortez is a "viciously dishonest person," he added.
"You have a man and his daughter dying in the river because the Democrats in Congress refuse to fix the law, refuse to control the border, refuse to pass humanitarian aid," he added. "It is truly despicable to watch people like this operate and I think she should be shamed over it. I think people should say this is not tolerable. That's not the kind of person that the news media ought to be covering because she is so dishonest."
Gingrich also commented on the controversy over Nike pulling shoes depicting the Betsy Ross flag from the stores after former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick complained some could find the design offensive.
"Parts of American corporate culture have now sold out and are so intimidated they do truly dumb things," said Gingrich."What Nike did was truly dumb and a little sad. The idea they're somehow embarrassed to have an original American flag coming out on the week of July 4th, give me a break. People at Nike should be ashamed and the Nike stockholders ought to be demanding they change their position."
