The withdrawal by Nike of a controversial shoe featuring the Betsy Ross flag angered users on social media on Tuesday.
Users took to Facebook and Twitter destroying Nike shoes and talking about why they felt the sportswear giant's decision was a mistake.
The company canceled the release of the sneaker that featured an early version of the American flag after former NFL player Colin Kaepernick reportedly complained about the design.
Nike created the Air Max 1 USA in celebration of July 4th. It was scheduled to go out this week.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the former NFL player turned activist reached out to Nike when photos of the shoe were posted online, saying he and others felt the Betsy Ross flag is an offensive symbol because of its connection to an era of slavery.
