The upheaval at the National Rifle Association has sparked another departure in the top ranks with the departure of the organization's longtime director of public affairs, Politico reported.

Jennifer Baker had been playing a key role in mapping out the NRA's electoral strategy for the 2020 election, Politico reported.

Her departure, which the outlet said was confirmed by unnamed sources, comes a month after Chris Cox, the NRA's chief political architect, resigned.

Jason Ouimet, a former head of federal affairs at the NRA, has been tapped as a temporary replacement for Cox, Politico reported.

The non-profit has seen an attempted coup against its chief Wayne LaPierre by its former president, Oliver North, leaked documents appearing to substantiate self-dealing allegations at the group's top, and a legal battle with its longtime advertising partner Ackerman McQueen, all since April, Talking Points Memo noted.

There is also an investigation into the nonprofit by New York State attorney General Letitia James, as well as a probe recently opened by D.C. attorney general Karl Racine, TPM reported.

There has been no formal response from the NRA on the latest change.
