The Oklahoma state Senate has put out the welcome mat for the National Rifle Association.

On Monday, officials passed a resolution encouraging the NRA to move its headquarters to Oklahoma, according to KOCO News 5.

The resolution was authored by state Sen. Michael Bergstrom, a Republican.

“It just makes sense for Oklahoma to be the new home of the NRA,” he said. “Oklahomans are extremely supportive and protective of their Second Amendment rights. We rank in the top ten in the country in firearms sales, and we’re open for business.

“The NRA loves liberty just like Oklahomans, and I know they’d fit right in here in Oklahoma. We are happy to show them all our state can offer.”

The gun rights group boasts about 5 million members and has been headquartered in Virginia. However, the NRA was chartered as a nonprofit in New York in 1871 and is incorporated in the state.

The organization announced in January it had filed for bankruptcy and would seek to incorporate in Texas instead of New York.
