Republicans have a challenge in keeping their majority in the House, but also have an 'opportunity' through the midterm elections, Rep. Steve Stivers, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee, said Tuesday.
"The choice is really clear between results that our Republican Congress delivered and the rhetoric of divisiveness the other side has," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "They want to raise every American's taxes, take away our economic success and basically put us in danger by eliminating ICE and not defending us at the border. So I think the choice is really clear. I hope that Americans will choose the path of prosperity as opposed to the path of despair."
Meanwhile, the economy has been part of the Republican campaign strategy, along with the issue of illegal immigration, said Stivers, and both work well together.
"I think we have to be able to do more than one thing," he said. "We have to be able to protect America and make America prosperous and we're working to do both."
Ohio's 12th District election has gotten a measure of national attention, and Stivers said he is confident that Republican Troy Balderson will win out over Democrat Danny O'Connor, after Balderson won the special election to hold the seat in August.
"The result today will be the same we have in August," said Stivers. "Balderson will win. It will be close. He will win it and hold it. He is doing a great job, a great congressman and making a difference and he will make a difference for the future of a lot of people...it is one of those races that will determine the fate of the majority."
