Obama Spends Christmas Holiday on the Golf Course

By    |   Tuesday, 23 December 2014 06:08 PM EST

President Barack Obama hit the golf course Tuesday, as part of his annual holiday tradition when he stays in Hawaii to celebrate Christmas.

Obama was joined by two high school friends, Greg Orme and Bobby Titcomb, in addition to White House staffer Joe Paulsen at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, The Hill is reporting.

The annual holiday golf outing began about a decade ago, when Obama had reunited with Orme, Titcomb and Mike Ramos, with whom Obama had attended Punahou School in the 1970s. The tradition continued even as the president's political aspirations grew.

Tuesday's golf game wasn't Obama's first since his vacation began on Friday. He also golfed Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to golfing, the president has also been bowling and went to the beach.

Obama has been widely criticized for his frequent golf trips.

In August, the president was slammed for returning to the golf course for the seventh time while vacationing in Martha's Vineyard after issuing a statement about James Foley, who was beheaded by the Islamic State (ISIS).

Foley's parents also said that they were "disappointed" that the president chose to continue golfing after their son's death.
