Dems: Obama Ignores Housing Crisis

The country’s housing woes linger on, with tens of millions of Americans at risk of foreclosure. But leading House Democrats charge President Barack Obama with shunning the crisis, The Hill reports.

 

"The administration has been AWOL on this issue, and the American people are suffering because of the mismanagement," said Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Calif. "In my entire political career, I've never seen anything this irresponsible."

 

Obama's mention of mortgage relief in his jobs speech last week raised Democrats’ hopes. But soon afterward they were disappointed.

 

They were upset that the White House refused their request for a briefing with Edward DeMarco, the acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), to learn about the White House’s plan. Instead, "they [FHFA] sent us some career employees, and they were not able to answer the questions that we were most concerned about," said Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md.
