MILLERS CREEK, N.C. — Authorities say a bomb squad disposed of a gasoline can at an intersection where President Barack Obama's motorcade passed in northwest North Carolina.
The Wilkes County sheriff's deputies said officers noticed the can on Monday and were told that it had been there for several days.
The discovery prompted a call to the Winston-Salem bomb squad. It disposed of the can filled with gasoline that posed little danger.
Deputies weren't immediately available for further comment.
Obama spoke to a crowd at West Wilkes High School as part of his tour through North Carolina and Virginia to promote his jobs bill. The gasoline can was found about a mile from the school.
