Vermont Sen. Mullin: I Don't Trust Gruber's Obamacare Work

By    |   Thursday, 20 November 2014 10:32 AM EST

The people of Vermont are "very disappointed" with derogatory comments Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber made, and the economist and MIT professor will probably have a hard time getting future contracts like the one he had with their state, Republican State Sen. Kevin Mullin told "Fox & Friends."

Vermont Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin canceled a contract with Gruber on Wednesday to advise officials on their state-run healthcare system, reported Fox News

Gruber had already been paid $160,000 of the $400,000 contract, Fox said.

"I think everyone in Vermont is very disappointed. Nobody agrees with the beliefs that have been espoused by Professor Gruber," Mullin said Wednesday. "I think that this will seriously hurt his ability to land these lucrative contracts going forward."

Gruber has reportedly received as much as $6 million in contracts with state and federal agencies to assist with assessing healthcare costs, the National Review Online reported.

Gruber made headlines when videos surfaced in which he said a lack of "transparency" and the "stupidity of the American voter" helped to get Obamacare passed.

Mullin said he "absolutely" did not trust Gruber, maintaining there was "no place for someone who espouses the beliefs that professor Gruber has espoused."

He said that Vermont, at this point, was trying to "make the best of a very bad situation."

Mullin said the contract with Gruber presented a "complicated issue" for the state, since "the public is not going to have confidence in" the work he and his graduate assistants had already done.

"We're going to have to go out and spend dollars to make sure that it's vetted by other economists, to make sure that we have good and accurate information to work from," he said.
