Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said those who attack her for misstatements she's made are "missing the forest for the trees" and are “more concerned with being accurate on facts than being morally right.”

In a "60 Minutes" interview aired on CBS Sunday, the progressive New York Democrat was asked about critics who have mocked several inaccurate and sweeping claims she's made about the cost of programs she supports.

Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at 29 years of age, said that "If people want to really blow up one figure here or one word there, I would argue that they're missing the forest for the trees. I think that there's a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right."

When pressed about the importance of being accurate, Ocasio-Cortez agreed that “It’s absolutely important. And whenever I make a mistake, I say ‘Okay this was clumsy.’ And then I restate what my point was.”

Ocasio-Cortez also said there's "no question" that President Donald Trump is a racist and that he has given a platform to such views.

She explained that "When you look at the words that he uses, which are historic dog whistles of white supremacy. When you look at how he reacted to the Charlottesville incident, where neo-Nazis murdered a woman, versus how he manufactures crises like immigrants seeking legal refuge on our borders, it's - it's night and day."
