A student survivor of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting accused President Donald Trump of being a "professional liar" over his speech to the National Rifle Association (NRA), The Hill reported.
"He's a professional liar who will say anything to appease whatever crowd he's at," Cameron Kasky told CNN's "New Day" on Saturday. "If he's in front of families he might say something in support of common-sense gun reform, but then when he's at the NRA he'll say something to get a big cheer."
Trump spoke on Friday to the NRA's annual meeting in Dallas, giving impassioned remarks in support of gun rights, telling members "thanks to your activism and dedication you have an administration fighting to protect your Second Amendment."
Following the February mass shooting at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Trump had considered some firearms restrictions opposed by the NRA, but later abandoned that position and Friday praised the group as a "great organization."
Kasky mocked the NRA earlier in the week in a tweet where he said the group had "evolved into such a hilarious parody of itself." He explained Saturday he was referring to the NRA's decision to ban firearms during speeches to the group by Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
"You'd think that if someone supported the NRA, they'd want as many 'good guys with guns' in the room as possible, right?" Kasky asked. "The hypocrisy is so blatant here and they're just embracing it at this point."
