Patricia Smith, mother of U.S. Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith, said she got no comfort from the arrest of a man thought to be a key organizer of the Benghazi attack that killed her son.
In fact, she said, she felt her son was "left behind."
Appearing Wednesday on Fox News Channel's
"On the Record with Greta Van Susteren," Smith said she got "not a bit" of comfort that she will get more answers about how her son died after the
weekend capture of Ahmed Abu Khattalah.
"This is only one guy of many. What happened to the rest of them?" Smith said. "How come it took so long for them to find one guy that says, 'Here I am'?"
Khattalah has been hiding "in plain site" since the attack on Sept. 11, 2012, critics of the Obama administration charge. Khattalah even granted in-person interviews to Fox News, CNN and The New York Times weeks after the attacks that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Smith puts most of the blame on then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whom she says should have granted the compound more security after multiple requests were made.
"They left him behind. He got the telephone call that said, sorry about that, you're on your own. There's no help coming. Now, tell me how that's leaving nobody behind."
Smith appeared to be referencing the recent trade of five Taliban prisoners held by the U.S. for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. There have been critics of the trade, but supporters said it was necessary to preserve the military principle of leaving no soldier behind.
