Peter King: Dems Making Big Mistake Boycotting Benghazi Panel

Democrats would be wrong to take the advice of California Congressman Adam Schiff and boycott a Benghazi select committee, says Rep. Peter King.

Schiff told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace that if Democrats vote to create the committee or participate as members it would lend it credibility. Schiff and other Democrats say Republicans are playing politics and that the attack that left four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, dead has already been investigate.

But King, a New York Republican, told Fox News Channel later on Sunday that a boycott would make Democrats appear to be covering up something and that they did not take the investigation seriously.

"And mostly it's going to show that they are afraid to confront the issues when the public is watching," King said. "They would prefer to have it done in the Situation Room of the White House maybe, but not in the light of public debate."

House Speaker John Boehner announced Friday that he would schedule a vote for a select committee after it was revealed that the White House has withheld documents relating to talking points given to then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice.

Rice followed the talking points in appearances on all five Sunday morning news shows, blaming the attacks on a spontaneous demonstration over an anti-Muslim YouTube video. Previously released communications have shown that the intelligence community did blame the video.

The new email released last week showed that it was White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes who advised Rice to blame the video. Republicans say it was because it would have damaged President Barack Obama's re-election – just weeks away – to have a U.S. ambassador killed by terrorists while Obama was campaigning that terrorists were "on the run."
