Trump: Strzok Fired – 'Finally'

By    |   Monday, 13 August 2018 01:18 PM EDT

President Donald Trump on Monday praised the firing of FBI agent Peter Strzok and questioned whether that will convince officials to drop special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Trump made his remarks in a tweet on Monday, once again calling the probe a "witch hunt" and "hoax."

Strzok once led the FBI's investigation into Russian meddling in the election. His firing was ordered by FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich.

Strzok's lawyer, Aitan Goelman accused Bowdich of giving in to political pressure. He said the dismissal was not based "on a fair and independent examination of the facts."

Trump has repeatedly cited texts between one-time agency lawyer Lisa Page and Strzok as proof that the FBI's investigation was tainted from the start. Page and Strzok were dating during the 2016 campaign.
