Planned Parenthood's latest annual report shows its abortion rates rose by more than 11,000 last year, casting doubt on claims that it focuses more on routine healthcare than it does on the procedure.
According to the new report, released over the weekend, Planned Parenthood provided 332,757 abortions in 2018, compared to 321,348 in 2016-17, reports The National Review, marking the most abortions the organization has performed during any year since 2011-12.
When compared to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and the Guttmacher Institute, Planned Parenthood was responsible for one-third to one-half of all abortions performed.
Meanwhile, non-abortion services decreased in almost all categories, including in providing contraception, cancer screenings, and other women's health services, with only treatment and tests for sexually transmitted disease going up by more than 300,000.
The report also states that abortions mark just 3.4 percent of the organization's services, but the report shows that Planned Parenthood got the statistic by dividing the number of abortion procedures by the number of total services.
Planned Parenthood's adoption referrals have also dropped to just under 3,000 totaled, meaning 118 abortions were performed for every one person who was referred for adoption.
The organization's net assets also rose last year, from $1.6 billion to $1.9 billion, and federal funding went up by $20 million, the report showed.
