Fifty-eight percent of voters say the Democratic presidential debates are very important or somewhat important, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll reveals.
Thirteen percent say they are not very important, while another 18% say they are not important at all.
The survey results were released Tuesday morning ahead of the start of the second round of debates. Here is how they break down:
- 72% of Democratic voters say they are very motivated or somewhat motivated to watch the debates, while 24% say they are not very motivated or not motivated at all.
- 31% of Republicans voters say they are very motivated or somewhat motivated to see the Democrats debate, compared to 65% who say they are not very motivated or not motivated at all.
- 37% of independent voters say they are very motivated or somewhat motivated to watch the debates, while 51% say they are not very motivated or not motivated at all.
- 45% say it is important or the candidates to discuss President Donald Trump, compared to 43% who say it is not.
- 26% of Democratic primary voters expect Joe Biden to perform the best in the debates. followed by Sens. Kamala Harris (16%), Elizabeth Warren (15%), and Bernie Sanders (13%).
- 43% of those polled approve of the job President Donald Trump is doing as president, while 53% disapprove.
The poll, conducted July 25-27, surveyed 1,994 registered voters. The margin of error is +/- 2 percentage points.
