Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., have more voter support than President Donald Trump in the key battleground state of North Carolina, where Trump won in 2016, a new poll shows.
The left-leaning Public Policy Polling survey released Wednesday found Biden leads Trump 49-44 percent, and Sanders tops the president 48-45 percent.
"Donald Trump's not very popular in North Carolina," Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling, said in a statement. "After winning the state by 4 points in 2016, he looks like even money at best for 2020 in the state, at least at this early stage."
In the survey, voters were given six possible Democratic opponents to sort out against Trump, but he tallied no higher than 46 percent support among respondents.
Here is the breakdown:
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., tied with Trump at 46 percent support each.
- Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and the president both garnered 45 percent.
- Trump topped former Rep. Beto O'Rourke, D-Texas, and Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., 46 percent to 45 percent.
- Trump talked a 46 percent approval by voters in the survey, while 50 percent disapproved.
The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
