A new poll by NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ reveals 63% of Americans say they believe the government has more information about extraterrestrials than it is letting on.
Here are how the results, released on Tuesday, break down:
- 17% say they don't believe the government is withholding information regarding extraterrestrials.
- 64% of Republicans say they believe the government has more information about aliens.
- 62% of Democrats say they believe the government has more information on extraterrestrials.
- 65% of independents they believe the government has more information on extraterrestrials.
- 53% of all those surveyed say they believe it is somewhat or very likely UFOs are related to "intelligent alien life."
The number of respondents, the date the poll was conducted, and the margin of error were not provided.
The poll comes after congressional testimony about UFOs.
Air Force Maj. David Grusch, a former intelligence official, told a congressional panel in July that the U.S. is concealing a longstanding program that retrieves and reverse engineers unidentified flying objects. The Pentagon has denied his claims, according to The Associated Press.
Grusch's highly anticipated testimony before a House Oversight subcommittee was Congress' latest foray into the world of UAPs — or "unidentified aerial phenomena," which is the official term the U.S. government uses instead of UFOs.
