White people and Republicans are the most angry among Americans taking an online poll conducted by
NBC News/Survey Monkey/Esquire.
Just under half – 49 percent – of Americans overall describe themselves as more angry about current events now than they were a year ago.
Here's how the numbers break down by race:
- Whites: 54 percent
- Latinos: 43 percent
- Blacks: 33 percent
Among those who say they get angry at least once a day:
- Whites: 73 percent
- Hispanics: 66 percent
- Blacks: 56 percent
Republicans report congressional dysfunction and consumer fraud as making them most angry while Democrats say it's police shootings of unarmed black men.
As for the gender divide, more women (53 percent) say they are angrier compared to men (44 percent.)
More than half (52 percent) say they are angry that the American Dream now seems harder to achieve. Those aged 45-64 are especially angry about that as they approach their retirement years.
And 54 percent say their financial situation isn't as good now as they expected it to be.
Those with incomes over $150,000 were the least angry, while those with incomes below $15,000 were most angry.
The poll was taken Nov. 20-24.
