French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte will receive from President Donald Trump and first lady Melania a framed section of upholstery from one of the chairs in the White House Blue Room as a gift during their state visit to Washington this week, CNN reported on Sunday.
The chair, which has a golden eagle surrounded by laurels, is part of a historic furniture suite inspired by Pierre-Antoine Bellangé, who designed royal palaces in France.
Bellangé was commissioned to create 53 carved and gilded pieces by President James Monroe, who had admired French décor while serving as a diplomat in Paris.
Although President James Buchanan got rid of the furniture decades later, first lady Jackie Kennedy later found spare pieces and worked with a French designer to reproduce missing items, according to CNN.
The Macrons are also expected to receive a special photo album, with pictures of their visit, and a Tiffany & Co. silver bowl, engraved with the presidential seal.
The French president and his wife are expected to give to the Trumps an oak sapling that grew at the site of a key World War I battle in which nearly 10,000 American soldiers were killed or wounded, according to The Hill.
Macron hosted Trump during a Bastille Day parade in Paris last year.
