President Donald Trump asked White House staff for feedback over his tweets about MSNBC "Morning Joe" co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, the New York Post reported Friday.

"He said to everyone, 'I know it wasn't presidential, but what did you think?'" a source close to the White House said. "He wanted to get people's reactions and sense what the fallout might be."

Some staff members responded with praise while others kept their heads down, the newspaper reported. However, the personal attacks the president launched Thursday on Twitter against the "Morning Joe" hosts did not overshadow a week that also saw CNN forced to retract a story it reported about an alleged tie between a Russian investment firm and a Trump ally.

"There's definitely a feeling that they're under siege, but this was also a week when they had the CNN vindication," the source said. "I think the White House has been in an aggressive mood as a result of that."
